Schrader® International - Chronology

1844 - August Schrader® enters business in lower Manhattan as a turner of brass parts.

1845 - Schrader® International supplies fittings and valves for rubber products made by Goodyear Brothers. These include air pillows and life preservers.

1849 - Schrader® International produces copper diving helmets for underwater salvage operations

1850 - Schrader® International devises an air pump for diving suits

1890 - August Schrader®´s son George Schrader® enters the business and becomes responsible for the experimental work that results in the design of the tire valve

1891 - Schrader® International produces the first tire valve for bycicles

1896 - Schrader® International patents the tire valve cap. Tire valves for automobiles are introduced

1905 - Schrader® International introduces gauges to measure tire pressure with accuracy

1932 - Pressurized fire extinguishers are produced using fluorinated hydrocarbons as a propellant

1951 - Schrader® International presses development of tubeless tire valves to meet needs of automotive industry

1956 - Bridgeport Brass develops the tubeless tire valve, wich eliminates the need for the inner tube on automobile tires. Schrader® International opens branch in Jacarel Brazil

1959 - Schrader® International improves the valve core with swivel screw plug and Teflon seals

1960 - Schrader® International opens tire valve plant in Pontarlier France to support European Market

1963 - Schrader® International opens plant in Bombay India

1967 - Schrader® International Brass moves to Virginia and becomes Piedmont Mfg

1979 - Schrader® International opens plant in Monroe, NC for tubeless tire valve

1983 - Piedmont Mfg. develops Primary Seal, the first high flow a/c charge valve for automotive applications

1988 - Eletronic tire gauges are introduced on a global basis

1990 - Schrader® International continues with development of Tire Pressure Monitoring System for vehicles wich will allow on dash display of tire pressure

1992 - Positive Stop Valve Core is developed

1993 - Schrader® International established plant in Northern Ireland for the continuing development of pressure measurement technologies

1993 - Bridgeport Piedmont develops Primary Seal and helps set SAE standards for new R-134a refrigerant

1994 - Schrader® International celebrates 150 years of innovation

1994 - Bridgeport Piedmont develops MINI PRV for automotive a/c applications

1995 - Schrader® International wins Gold Medal Award for Remote Tire Pressure Monitoring System at the Equip Auto Show in Paris

1996 - Schrader® International Automotive and Bridgeport-Piedmont merge to form Schrader® International-Bridgeport International

1998 - Schrader® International Bridgeport introduces a variety of valve assemblies in order automotive systems. These include bleeder valves, idle speed control valves, inertial damping shock absorber valves, and compressor control valves

1999 - Schrader® International Bridgeport is purchased by Tomkins PLC and becomes part of the Gates Group of Companies

2002 - Schrader® International Bridgeport Develops patented PRD, combination thermal/pressure relief device for emerging fuel cell market and other compressed gas markets

2002 - Schrader® International Bridgeport helps develop SAE standards for new CO2 automotive a/c systems, and develops new innovations for valving
